London 2012 Olympics Aquatics Centre

London, United Kingdom
2012
SPS Technology

For the London 2012 Olympics, the London Aquatics Centre underwent a significant expansion to accommodate an additional 13,500 spectators. Innovate Stadia, in collaboration with SPS Technology and other expert industry bodies, contributed to this transformation by integrating demountable stadium terracing into temporary ‘frame wings’ that increased seating capacity.

  • Initially designed for 4,000 seats, the Centre’s capacity was enhanced with temporary ‘spectator wings’ using SPS Stadia + Arenas terraces, adding 13,500 more seats.
  • The SPS terraces were factory-finished in a vibrant yellow befitting the London 2012 branding.
  • Legacy and Transformation: Post-Olympics, the temporary seating was easily removed and sold during the venue’s conversion to a public swimming pool.
