In 2009, the NEC, Birmingham, underwent a major indoor arena renovation. Alongside Architects Workshop Ltd and SPS Technology, the Innovate Stadia team redesigned, enlarged and completely refitted the venue to be reconfigurable.

  • The total capacity of seats increased by 8,000.
  • In total, 4,200m2 of SPS stadium decking terraces were installed.
  • The SPS terraces were lifted into a position using a vacuum lift in the confined space with restricted crane access.
  • The refurbishment mean that the venue could suit a more diverse range of events and shows.
